WEEK 1 NOTES AND VIDEO
BLUE TEXT GOES TO LINKS.
Housetraining has been taking up a good portion of our day. This link goes to housetraining progress and work on Week 1 (phase 1). Also this link goes to my housetraining tip article. We are doing all of those things with Padme.
Loose Leash Walking: I go on a neighborhood walk with Padme everyday for about 50 minutes. On the walk, I use techniques to teach her that pulling is not desirable (as on the attached article on loose leash). The walk on Week 1 is pretty sedate and only enough to be challenging to Padme, but not too challenging. She gets distracted by cars, people, and dogs and can pull then.
Lured Heel Step 1: Heel is a command that I use to get ready loose leash walking in the future. Heel is a very exacting position command where your dog's shoulder should be at your leg as you walk forward, and that when you stop your dog also does an auto sit. The lured heel is good to teach young dogs the position. This is not used outdoors yet (as you need low distractions to start a dog on it), but the goal is that this can be practiced outside (if you need to do it).
Sits First Command (Interim Correction or Collar Correction when Needed): When padme was distracted, she would not reliably do a sit on a first command. So I started her on the molded sits protocols first. Now she is being taught to respond to a collar correction (only if needed) first under low inside distraction and then more challenging inside distractions (namely other dogs).
