Week 3 Schedule for House Training

Padme was having a growth spurt or change in her bathroom schedule on Week 3 that was more frequent.  So I am going to post the most recent bathroom schedule for Padme that worked for the final two days without accidents.  However, this is probably (and hopefully) going to change to be less.  On the final day that Padme was here, she did not go to the bathroom as frequently.  I did however keep to the more frequent schedule as she was having a problem holding it during Week 3 as she was in Week 2.

In general, I would recommend waiting for a week of no accidents before changing the schedule (if you can).  Then I would begin taking out the times that she clearly did not need to go before changing the schedule.

HOUSE TRAINING SCHEDULE FOR PADME

Items in red are the things that changed in week 3 from week 2.  Also remember if in doubt and you can't be with her, put her in the crate.

Note 1:  Also in general, if you get a poop and pee, you are probably good for two hours. So for example if Padme pooped and peed and 12:30 pm, I would probably feel comfortable skipping the 1:20 pm.

Note 2:  Also, I limit her outside time to do her business to 5 minutes instead of 10 minutes now.  I ignore her when she is out there, unless she tries to lie down.  Then I walk her around either by using let's go with the ecollar or walking her around on leash.

Note 3:  Always see if she needs to go after training or on a walk if she didn't just poop and pee.

Note 4:  Also remember from the housetraining article, the further your dog is from you or is in a new area, the more possible they will think that is fair game as "outside".  That is until they have acclimated to the area and schedule.  This is when I use let's go to have the dog follow me through the house, or sit on the dog if I get nervous that she may make an accident before I am ready to let her out, or the crate to be the safest (she has not gone in the crate but there is always a chance that she could).

Note 5:  Padme was tough as it is right in the middle of a growth spurt.  Her bladder probably has not developed as much to take this increased activity on.   By week 3, she was only having accidents if I was not physically in the room with her.  That is why I increased the schedule for her so she knew I was coming to let her out a little earlier.

4:30 am - 6:30 am [Note that she was sleeping until 7:45 am before the 3rd week) First thing when she wakes up, she does a poop and a pee (except for the last day she was here when she only did a pee).

7:45 am Goes out before eating, and usually poops and pees. (I will usually pop her outside for 5 minutes after she finishes her mealjust to check as well, but she doesn't normally do anything UNLESS she had not done something before )

8:40 am (this is one of the most recent times that cropped up during her growth spurt) poop and pee

10:30 am Usually pees

12:00 pm I let her out before eating, and she usually pees but sometimes poops and pees

12:30 pm  Occasionally poops and pees

1:20 pm  Occasionally poops and pees

2:55 pm Probably just pee

5:00 pm Probably just pee before eating (I usually pop her outside after her meal just to check as well, but she doesn't normally do anything UNLESS she had not done something before)

5:30 pm Usual poop and possible pee

6:45 pm  Occasionally pees

8:00 pm (was 8:30 pm before week 3) Probably pee and possible poop

10:00 pm (was 9:30 pm before week 3)  Probably pee and possible poop
